Great new website from Village Elementary

Mrs. Monagan’s and Mrs. Carlson’s first graders at Village Elementary have great websites! They have a podcast that they do once a week. For those that don’t know, a podcast is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost. It firsts became popular in late 2004, used largely for audio files. All that means to us, is that the kids do a weekly radio show over the Internet, which you can listen to here! I think its really neat, and I think it would be interesting if the library could do one… maybe I could read a story over the Internet.

Mrs. Monagan’s Monkeys and Mrs. Carlson’s Care Bears are learning about the Peregrine Falcons that live on top of the Kodak Office Tower in Rochester, NY. There’s lots of interesting and informative government sites about the falcons, like this one from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and another one from the U.S. Geological Survey. There’s also a nice one from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The one from Cornell even allows you to listen to one of their bird songs!

Remember to check out what books the library has on Peregrine Falcons! One book we have is called:

Falcons nest on skyscrapers
by Priscilla Belz Jenkins; illustrated by Megan Lloyd
