*Responsibilities of having a library card!*

So you’re getting a library card for the first time?

Here’s some things you should know:

  • The library is a fun place to be! We want to purchase books that you will read, so remember to make lots of
suggestions. You can let the librarian know what books you want by emailing her at ckyle@libraryweb.org or writing her a nifty letter. Please address it to Cathy.
  • We have lots of programs throughout the year. If we don’t have a program that you’d really like to see at the library, please let us know!
  • The only limit on books is the amount you can carry and the amount you can be responsible for, and you are responsible to pay for everything on your card, not your little sister or your dog.
  • If you lose your card, make sure you let a staff member know so that we can block your card. This is to prevent anyone else from taking materials out on your card.
  • Don’t let anyone else use your card. If you let your friend use your card and their dog eats the book, you are still responsible for the materials.

Some things to know about library materials:

  • Books don’t like water, food or sand. Water makes books stinky. Food makes books sticky and sand makes books scratchy.
  • CDs and DVDs are sensitive. Be gentle and keep them away from heat. Also try not to touch the side that you play because it can get damaged easily.
  • If you bring back items late, you will have to pay fines.
    • Books and music CDs go out for three weeks. They may be renewed twice, as long as no one else wants them. After that, you will be charged ¢ 25 a day.
    • Videos and DVDs go out for one week. They may be renewed twice, as long as no one else wants them. After that, you will be charged ¢ 25 a day.
    • Framed prints go out for three months and they can’t be renewed. After that, you will be charged ¢ 25 a day.

Remember, this is your library too, so it’s important to take care of materials, make book and program suggestions and have fun!
